To describe Austria is very easy: it is beautiful and "gemütlich", which comes from "Gemüt", which means "feeling" and this is what makes the "Gemütlichkeit" for which Austria is famous and for which no word exists in any other language. This is because for the simple reason that no one else has such a feeling and therefore has no need of a word for it.
"Gemütlichkeit" means to enjoy great company with music and good food and this is what the Austrians love to do the most and also what they can do best. No matter if one enjoys a piece of "Torte mit Schlagobers" (cake with whipped cream) in a "Kaffeehaus" (coffee house) or a glass of wine in a "Heuriger" (this years wine) it all falls under being "gemütlich".

Each one to his taste - "Jedem sein Geschmack" whether it is French, German, Russian, or whatever. This is culinary Austria. People came from Poland, Hungary, Italy, Germany, and many other countries and brought their appetites and strange dishes with them. Recipes began changing hands and the typical Austrian cuisine was developed: a potpourri of the best cooking from Paris, Berlin, St. Petersburg, and Rome, etc. the best food with the best wines accompanied with the best music Europe had ever known.

And today in America you can experience Austrian cuisine with me.

  • WITH MEAT:
    First: Asparagus in butter with golden fried bread crumbs (Spargel mit Butter & Brösel).
    Main: Viennese Style Pork Cutlets with parsley potatoes, cranberry sauce and cucumber salad (Schweinsschnitzel Wiener Art mit Petersilkartoffeln und Gurkensalat).
    Dessert: Coffee Créme Gateau (Kaffeecremetorte).
  • WITHOUT MEAT:
    First: Asparagus in butter with golden fried bread crumbs (Spargel mit Butter & Brösel).
    Main: Gnocchi with Eggs (Eiernockerl).
    Nockerln (Gnocchi) are fried and mixed with scrambled eggs. They are served with a green salad. You will be surprised how delicious this simple dish is!

    Dessert: Coffee Créme Gateau (Kaffeecremetorte).
  • LOW CARB:
    First: Asparagus in butter (Spargel mit Butter).
    Main: Styrian Pork with Roots (Steirisches Wurzelfleisch).
    The famous Styrian Pork is named after "Styria", which is an Austrian province in the Southern part of the country. Our 'Governator' Arnold Schwarzenegger was born and raised there.
    The meat is cooked in soup with chopped root vegetables and served with horseradish.

    Dessert: Weingelee (Wine jelly).
  • RAW:
    First: Paprika- carrot- tomato salad with pickled cucumbers (Paprika- Karotten- Tomatensalat).
    Main: Raw Cauliflower Dish (Rohkost Karfiol).
    Delicious cauliflower and apple combination, you will love it!.

    Dessert: Orange Tray (Orangenplatte).
